A prescribed route, a five-day lead time and no margin for deviation
Most road freight moves by the most efficient route available. Military equipment often doesn’t. This includes a recent job, which required the collection of military equipment from Autrèche in the Loire Valley and delivery to Velika Gorica, Croatia.
The route involved passing through France, Italy, Slovenia and into Croatia. This was not chosen for convenience. It was dictated by military agreements between the countries involved, so deviation wasn’t an option.
Meeting tight requirements
Five days before loading, we had to confirm both the driver (who had to be strictly EU-based) and vehicle details to the relevant authorities.
The prescribed routing through Italy and Slovenia added distance and planning complexity. Every leg had to be accounted for in advance, and the driver had to be fully briefed on the route and its requirements before departure.
Our operations team coordinated the driver and vehicle confirmation five days out, meeting the pre-loading notice requirement without disruption to the timeline.
Maintaining complete visibility
For sensitive military cargo, 24/7 visibility and the ability to respond immediately to any issue in transit is a baseline requirement.
24/7 tracking was maintained across all three transit countries. So any issue arising in transit would have been identified and addressed in real time. Communication between ops and the driver throughout the journey also ensured the prescribed route was followed precisely.
Thanks to our operational infrastructure and the experienced team, the equipment was collected in France and delivered to Velika Gorica without incident, via the agreed route.
